Werner Kok celebrated his 50th appearance for the Sharks with a hat-trick to help them secure a tour win against Scarlets in Llanelli on Friday night.

The shaggy-haired winger scored once in the first half and twice in the second, both with precise cross kicks courtesy of flyhalf Siya Masuku, who also contributed 12 points with the boot. The Sharks bounced back from last week’s loss in Glasgow to beat the Scarlets 32-27 for the fourth win of their 2023-24 campaign.

The lead changed hands three times in a first half that ended with the tourists leading 17-13: Kok and prop Vincent Koch crossed for tries, and Masuku added the extras, canceling out a pair of Sam Costelow penalties and a touchdown from hooker. Ryan Elias.

Costelow leveled the scores with his conversion of prop Kemsley Mathias’ try after the restart, but Kok hit back twice in a row to collect the bonus point and cancel out a late Scarlets rally that resulted in a try for fullback Ioan Nicholas.

Next up, the Sharks turn their attention to their Challenge Cup semi-final clash against Clermont at Twickenham Stoop.
