Cobram, Victoria: Woman’s body discovered in a house

A woman was found dead inside a home in northern Victoria and a man known to her has assisted police in their investigations.

Emergency services were called to a property on Campbell Road in Cobram, on the New South Wales border, about 2.15pm on Tuesday.

A woman’s body was discovered inside and authorities have not yet formally identified her.

Tanya Plibersek (pictured right with her daughter Anna) hopes that victims of domestic abuse will receive more support.

Police are currently questioning a 39-year-old Cobram man.

Victoria Police believe the pair knew each other.

Homicide detectives have launched an investigation.

“Police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the death and the investigation remains ongoing,” a statement read.

No charges have yet been filed.

Cobram is located along the Murray River on the border of Victoria and New South Wales, and has a population of 6,148.

Cobram’s death follows the deaths of two women in regional towns, allegedly at the hands of their ex-partners.

Hannah McGuire, 23, was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend Lachlan Young in Clunes, near Ballarat.

Teaching assistant and mother of one Molly Ticehurst28, was found dead inside her home in the New South Wales town of Forbes early Monday.

Ticehurst’s ex-boyfriend, Daniel Billings, 29, has been charged with her alleged murder.

He was on bail on charges including rape, harassment and intimidation when he allegedly murdered Ms Ticehurst.

Ticehurst’s death has renewed calls for stricter bail laws, which have been backed by New South Wales Premier Chris Minns.

The woman’s body was found inside a house in northern Victoria, 260 kilometers from Melbourne.
