DCI detectives raid Kangundo Road site, seize thousands of liters of diverted fuel

On Thursday, May 9, DCI detectives raided a site on Kangundo Road, Nairobi, and seized thousands of liters of diverted fuel.

The detectives, belonging to the Operations Support Unit, confiscated at the scene a trailer, two fuel tanker trucks, generators equipped with hoses, funnels, 20-liter drums and several tanks containing undetermined quantities of siphoned fuel.

Detectives acted following a tip-off from a concerned member of the public who noticed a fuel spill, as the illegal business is operated right next to a supermarket and open-air market along KCC Road.

No suspect was arrested during the raid as those involved learned of the police presence through their informants and evaded arrest by using a panya route.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that illegal business operators are linked to the April 12, 2024 raid behind the Shell gas station on Lunga Lunga Road in Nairobi.

During the April 12 raid, 41 suspects were arrested and charged, but the five tankers at the scene were later released by court order.

“The DCI is grateful to members of the public who continue to voluntarily provide actionable information on this illegal business as they pragmatically contribute to the prevention of loss of life through unfortunate cases of infernos such as the horrific Embakasi gas explosion on 2 February,” says the DCI.

The DCI further invites all interested parties, including authorized distributors and government agencies, to join together in an effort to join forces to break organized crime rings.
