Passion Java taps Zanu PF for ‘Night of Wonders’

The ruling Zanu PF party has ordered its supporters in Harare to attend the controversial Java Passion Prophet religious event called Night of Wonders, scheduled for today at the National Sports Stadium.

According to messages shared on Zanu PF social media platforms, all Harare district structures should mobilize party supporters to attend the event.

When Java came up with the idea for the meeting, he declared that it would draw a crowd large enough to fill the gigantic 60,000-seat stadium.

A message circulating in Harare quotes Zanu PF Harare zone coordinator Joshua Gore instructing the party’s district chairpersons to mobilize their supporters to attend the event without fail.

“All district presidents in Zone 6 must mobilize all members (munhu wese hake) to attend the church program organized by Evangelist Passion Java,” he said in the notice.

Zanu PF Zone 6 covers four constituencies of Mbare, Southerton, Sunningdale and Harare South, as well as some parts of Hatfield and Waterfalls.

The party’s transport secretary in the area, Nico Hamadziripi, confirmed to NewsDay that the party was mobilizing its supporters to attend the Java event.

“I can confirm that I have received a text message to that effect and as transport secretary they tell me that the buses will be there. The district president can come and collect the buses at Stoddart Hall in Mbare.

“Java is an active party cadre and we must support it,” he said.

Java was not answering his cell phone and did not respond to text messages sent to him yesterday.

However, posting on his official Facebook page about the event, the controversial preacher said: “If you have HIV, need money or have a broken leg, come to the Night of Wonders,” he said.

The self-proclaimed maverick prophet promised not to preach again if he does not fill the gigantic sports stadium.

NewsDay investigations also revealed that buses have been mobilized to transport Zanu PF supporters in all 10 provinces of the country.

“Yes, we were contracted to transport people from Mutare to the religious service scheduled for the National Sports Stadium,” said a transport operator who asked not to be identified.

Buses across the city are now adorned with advertisements promoting the event, while Java pulled out all the stops before the event to fill the country’s largest stadium.

The brightly colored ads show Java, bathed in cosmic light, with the bold text Night of Wonders emblazoned on the side of a bus.

The unconventional preacher caused quite a stir with his attention-grabbing antics at Zanu PF rallies during President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s re-election campaigns last year.

During an event held at Robert Mugabe Square in Harare, Java chanted the slogan “Mbavha4ED” in front of Mnangagwa.

For many, Java appears to be a prominent agitator of debris on social media, with an unfiltered language and without apologies for abusing his closeness with the president with whom he had been photographed having breakfast and taking photos.
