Antonio Rudiger hilariously thanked the VAR monitor for his triumphant exit from the Santiago Bernabéu pitch on Wednesday night, new footage shows.

Real Madrid had just beaten Bayern Munich 2-1 (4-3 on aggregate) to reach the Champions League final and VAR was vital in their impressive victory.

Joselu had initially been ruled offside after scoring the winning goal in the 91st minute, but a decision by the video assistant referee declared him offside.

There was chaos in a delirious Bernabéu, where the fans had already seen Joselu equalize just three minutes earlier.

Alphonso Davies had given Bayern a surprising 1-0 lead, but Madrid’s inspired turnaround means they will face Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham’s former club, in the final.

Rüdiger and Juliet? The images seem to show the defender walking away from a kiss with the monitor, such were his passions

Video footage shows Rudiger leaning towards the pitchside VAR monitor and patting it as he walked off stage.

Because the camera pans late, it is unclear if the defender sought a simple hug or if his passions extended to a kiss.

He was clearly struggling to contain his excitement as he shouted ‘Let’s go’ to the fans and again to himself as he made his way down the tunnel.

When Joselu’s second goal was initially ruled out, footage showed TNT’s Rio Ferdinand informing Rudiger of the bad news as he exulted in the stands.

Ferdinand revealed that he had planned a celebration with Rudiger, which he unfortunately couldn’t show off.

He told TNT Sports: “When he approached me, I thought, ‘Okay, we have a celebration planned here, Rudiger and I.’

But I saw the flag go up out of the corner of my eye and I said, “Get back on the field, get back on the field.”

‘Unfortunately we were not able to show the celebration we had planned for the last few days. Maybe I’ll get there another time.

There was more VAR controversy to come, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt controversially having a late equalizer disallowed after Noussair Mazraoui was deemed offside.

Los Blancos will have the chance to extend their record 15th Champions League title at Wembley on June 1.

Rudiger is aiming for his second crown, having won the top European competition with Chelsea in 2021 under Thomas Tuchel, whom he eliminated on Wednesday.
