Radio Africa’s Quarcoo receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Patrick Quarcoo, general director of the Radio Africa Group, has received an award Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the AllAfrica Media Leaders Summit at a colorful event at the Glee Hotel in Runda, Nairobi on Thursday evening.

Quarcoo has been honored at the AllAfrica Gala Dinner and Excellence Awards Ceremony for his dedication and contributions, which have shaped the journalism landscape in Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Quarcoo dedicated the award to Africa’s journalists and called for more innovation in the media landscape.

“Thank you very much for the award. I want to dedicate this award to hundreds of journalists in Africa. I tell everyone who joins my organization that we must create incredible media products that change countries,” said Quarcoo.

“We have an incredible responsibility to listen to our market and shape minds to make this happen.”

Other award categories presented included the AllAfrica Titan Leadership Award in recognition of exceptional service in economic transformation and human development in Africa, which was collected by Dr Akinwumi Adesina.

The Wangari Maathai Award for Young Journalists from AllAfrica and the University of Nairobi in recognition of the best use of digital tools for youth engagement, where Hope Nabalayo was the winner, Zachary Nyakweba was the first runner-up and Kairu Karega (second runner-up).

The African Development Bank Journalism Award in recognition of excellence in development reporting;

The African Export-Import Bank Journalism Award in recognition of excellence in reporting on regional integration. Boason Omofaye emerged winner in this category.

African Foundation for Capacity Development Award in recognition of excellence in capacity development reporting. Emmanuel Dogbevi took the honors in this category.

AllAfrica and ONE Campaign Newsroom Innovation Youth Challenge are the top 3 awards for excellence in developing new and innovative ways to enable newsrooms to engage young Africans. In this category, Dixon Yiadom was the winner, Nelago Yohannes (first runner-up) and Oyomide Agbadge (second runner-up).

“His impact on the development of The Radio Africa Group is immeasurable and his legacy is a testament to his passion for truth, storytelling and the power of communication. We believe that his outstanding achievements deserve the highest form of recognition, and we are “It is a pleasure to give him this lifetime achievement award.”

The 2024 All-Africa Media Leaders Summit brings together more than 300 African media owners and operators, government officials, corporate leaders, academics, civil society advocates and development partners.

The Summit was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 8 to 10, 2024.

The theme of the 2024 Summit is Reengineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation.

During the summit, they discussed the media business and the critical role it must play in shaping Africa’s future.

Agendas during the summit included African economic transformation, artificial intelligence, technology and digitalization, regional integration and peacebuilding, misinformation and disinformation, governance, standards, capacity building and creation of sustainable business models.
