WASHINGTON – Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scoffed at a recent report that doctors found a dead parasite in his brain more than a decade ago.

“I am offering to eat 5 more brain worms and still beat President Trump and President Biden in a debate,” Kennedy wrote. on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a follow-up tweet, he wrote: “I feel confident in the outcome even with a six-worm handicap.”

His comments come after the New York Times reported Wednesday that doctors noticed a dark spot on Kennedy’s brain scans after he experienced memory loss in 2010 and concluded he had a brain tumor, according to a 2012 statement. He had received a call from another doctor who believed it was a dead parasite and not a tumor, the Times reported.

Kennedy’s campaign team appeared to confirm a previous problem with a parasite in a statement to USA TODAY, but said the problem had been resolved.

“Mr. Kennedy traveled extensively throughout Africa, South America and Asia in his work as an environmental advocate, and in one of those places he contracted a parasite,” his media team said in an email. “The problem was resolved more than 10 years ago and he is in good physical and mental health.”

Kennedy had challenged Trump to a debate at the Libertarian convention later this month, according to the Associated Press.
