Ancelotti’s son, behind Real Madrid’s decisive change against Bayern Munich

Three minutes were enough for Real Madrid to turn the tables against Bayern Munich last night in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

Trailing 0-1 in the second leg in the 88th minute, Joselu scored twice for the men in white in quick succession to complete a stunning comeback for his team.

The Spanish veteran was therefore Real Madrid’s hero at the Santiago Bernabéu, as he made one of the greatest Champions League cameos of all time. The manner of replacing him, however, was very interesting.

The father-son combination

According to AS, Carlo Ancelotti was not at all happy with the course of the tie, especially after Alphonso Davies’ goal.

A substitution was necessary, but the Italian tactician was not sure which player to turn to at such a crucial moment. At that moment he called his son.

“Davide, we need a change” Ancelotti said, asking his son for advice.

Almost instantly, his son Davide knew that Joselu was the man of the hour and suggested the striker’s name to his father. The veteran was immediately called from his warm-up and taken to the field.

The rest, as they say, is history.

A strong partnership

It’s rare for a father and son duo to work together in such high-level football, but it’s safe to say that the Ancelotti family is unique in that regard.

Carlo and Davide get along very well in terms of ideology and vision of the game.

The Italian maestro does not hesitate to listen to his son in times of adversity, and it is no surprise that Davide has had a part to play in the team’s comebacks against PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea, among others.

With each passing game, young Ancelotti’s influence at Real Madrid grows and it is clear that he has a bright future ahead of him as a tactician.
