I can assure you peaceful elections: Interior Minister tells US ambassador

The Minister of the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey has assured the Ambassador of the United States of America, Her Excellency Virginia E. Palmer, of the Government’s continued commitment to ensuring a peaceful next general election in 2024 in Ghana.

‘I can assure you that a peaceful and smooth general election will be held. His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given us the corresponding orders to ensure peaceful elections and we will do that, the Minister stated.

Honorable. Henry Quartey made these statements when the American ambassador visited him at his Ministry office in Accra to discuss matters of interest between the two countries.

He said that an electoral task force has been created to ensure peace and security for a smooth election and the Ministry will soon implement some activities to sensitize key stakeholders and the public on the need for peaceful and smooth elections because Ghana has done in the previous elections and will do it again in the 2024 elections without any cause for alarm.

According to him, the government is creating a conducive environment for investors to come to the country so that businesses can prosper and develop. Therefore, it is up to the Government to ensure that there is peace and security in the country to encourage businesses and investors.

The Minister also assured that the Government will continue to re-equip the security services to carry out their functions in a good and professional manner. He added that as the Ministry responsible for maintaining law and order in the country, it will do its best and take necessary measures to fulfill the mandate of the Ministry.

Referring to the US elections, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer stated that the upcoming elections will go well and the United States will remain victorious.

He thanked Bro. Henry Quartey for the visit and assured him of the Embassy’s readiness to provide support and collaboration in areas that will help and benefit everyone.
