Gunshots heard as confusion rocks Cape Coast North voter registration center

Shots were reportedly fired at a voter registration center in the Cape Coast North electoral district of the Central Region.

Adom News’ Kofi Adjei, who is monitoring the proceedings, reported that the shots were fired by some men who were allegedly guarding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Horace Ekow Ewusi.

The multiple shots fired on Thursday morning were allegedly aimed at preventing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from registering a group of people downtown.

Registrants were reportedly bussed from Moree in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency.

PNP members at the center have vowed not to allow them to register in the current limited registration exercise.

This resulted in a misunderstanding between the PNP and NDC members and the subsequent shooting.

The phone of the NDC constituency youth organizer, Godfred Onso Nyameye, was allegedly confiscated during the altercation, leading to the degeneration of the situation.

Mr Ewusi was dragged to his car and taken away after a group of people chased him from the registration centre.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made.
