Alia Bhatt walked the Met Gala red carpet for the second time. For this year’s “Garden Of Time” dress code, Alia wore a Sabyasachi sari, the creation of which required a total of 1965 man-hours. Sabyasachi Mukerjee’s official Instagram account shared fragments of the making of the sari. The clip has snippets of the beadwork process, intricate stitches, glimpses of Sabyasachi and women sitting together creating the sari with a long tulle train. The title of the post shared by Sabyasachi read: “As the galloping horde of mechanization, modernization and uniformity draws ever closer, it is craftsmanship, that embodiment of the human touch, tradition and diversity that will safeguard the culture of the passage of time”.

The handmade blouse is studded with emeralds, Basra pearls, tourmalines and multicolored sapphires,” reads an excerpt from the post.

He sari was complemented by Sabyasachi High Jewellery’s Bengal Royal collection in old and brilliant cut tourmalines, sapphires, emeralds and EF VVS diamonds. And the look was finished with a custom handcrafted edition of the Baby Tiger studded with emeralds, Basra pearls, tourmalines and multi-coloured sapphires by Sabyasachi Accessories.

Alia Bhatt mentioned that it took “a total of 1965 man-hours” to create the piece. “We embraced a delicate nostalgia for hair and makeup: an updo adorned with intricately woven braids and soft freckles, an homage to the gentle caress of time. Creating this has been quite an experience… equal parts fun and stressful. It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated people, including master artisans, embroiderers, artists and dyers, who invested a total of 1965 hours of work to create this ethereal saree, As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation, a testimony of boundless love and painstaking effort,” reads an excerpt from Alia Bhatt’s post.

On the work front, last year Alia Bhatt made her big Hollywood debut with Gal Gadot. Heart of stone. She also appeared in Karan Johar’s hit film. Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani with Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. She also received the Best Actress award at the 69th National Film Awards in Delhi last year.
