‘He screwed three gringos’ – Chilling testimony in the case of the murdered Australians

A Mexican court has heard disturbing details about how Jesús Gerardo, known as “El Kekas”, allegedly confessed to killing brothers Jake and Callum Robinson from Perth and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad.

Gerardo allegedly made the confession to his girlfriend Ari Gisel García Cota.

The trio’s bodies were discovered 10 meters deep in a well, leading to the arrest of three locals, including El Kekas and his 23-year-old girlfriend.

During today’s hearing, El Kekas, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and white sneakers, was handcuffed and chained to the floor. He remained impassive as García Cota, now a key witness for the prosecution, recounted a conversation in which he admitted the crimes to her after returning from the Baka California camp.

“I basically screwed three gringos,” he allegedly told her. When she asked further, he allegedly responded, “I killed them.”

Prosecutors said he then gave her a mobile phone and told her, “look what I bought you,” before taking her outside to show her the new tires on his car that he had allegedly stolen from the trio’s van.

García Cota said she immediately fled to her mother’s house. She was later arrested by police and she told them that she wanted to cooperate with the investigation. She said she told police she was a mother and a victim of domestic violence. García Cota was later charged with drug possession after methamphetamine was found in her possession.

Jesús Gerardo has been charged in relation to the disappearance of the surfers.

Murder charges expected

The Robinson brothers were on a surfing trip, camping in a remote area of northern Mexico, when they were reportedly shot execution-style during what authorities described as a “robbery gone wrong.” Police believe the trio resisted their attackers. Their bodies were found a short distance from their camp.

Today, El Kekas has been accused of forced kidnapping. While his charges have not yet been raised to murder, authorities said it was expected to be done in the coming days.

They allege that El Kekas stole tires, cash and valuable electronic items from the men and suspect that other people were involved in the crime.

The Attorney General of Baja California, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, said that “in relation to the homicide, the Prosecutor’s Office will also present the corresponding criminal complaint.”

“While the foreigners were camping, they were surprised by Jesús and other people, with the intention of stealing their vehicle and, given the reaction of the victims, they deprived them of their lives,” he said.

“Through the investigations carried out, the white Chevrolet Colorado vehicle in which the victims were traveling was found burned.

“Other evidence was also collected, such as tent poles, firearm casings, one-gallon plastic bottles, blood stains and drag marks, in the place where they were presumably camping.”

Kekas did not enter a plea and remained in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for November 8.
