General Ogolla’s death: Azimio rules out ongoing KDF investigation

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has rejected the Kenya Air Force’s ongoing investigation into the helicopter crash that killed former Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), General Francis Ogolla.

Instead, the coalition led by Raila Odinga wants a parliamentary select committee to investigate the death of the military chief and nine other officers on April 18.

They also want “independent and international experts or investigators” to get to the bottom of the matter.

The coalition described the Kenya Air Force investigation as “a limited internal matter that does not satisfy the requirement of an open, transparent, independent and credible investigation.”

Wipers leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who read the statement, regretted that the government is yet to launch a time-bound public inquiry into the cause of the helicopter crash, several weeks after General Ogolla died along with nine others. military.

“We also demand that a parliamentary select committee be immediately set up to investigate the tragedy,” Musyoka said.

He spoke at a press conference at the SKM (Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka) command center in Karen, Nairobi, on Wednesday, flanked by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, PNU’s Peter Munya and the Roots Party’s George Wajackoyah.

Sinister political machinations

Musyoka said Kenyans were worried and suspected that the tragic death of the four-star general and his colleagues could be linked to sinister political machinations.

“This is particularly true given the unfounded allegations against him in connection with the 2022 presidential election,” he said.

He lamented that the Kenya Kwanza regime has moved forward rapidly, leaving the families of the deceased soldiers without any help.

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) had postponed the memorial service for the late Ogolla, which was scheduled for Friday, April 26, a few days after his burial.

The new date for the event, which will be held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, will be announced later, according to a joint statement from the KDF and General Ogolla’s family.

“As the three-day national mourning period has come to an end and we return to living life without General Francis Ogolla, we collectively continue to pray for his family and our fallen comrades following the helicopter crash,” he said.

Last week, Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o also called for an independent investigation into Ogolla’s death, saying it could be sinister.

“During the Kenyatta regime, we assassinated Tom Mboya, and when the Daniel Moi government came, Robert Ouko was also assassinated.

“…and now, the blood of another Luo has been spilled. What kind of sacrifice is this? The Church must pray strongly for this because we cannot wait for the blood of a prominent Luo to be spilled in every government,” Professor Nyong’o said.

He said it was unfortunate that the mystery surrounding the deaths had not yet been solved.
