MK ‘founder’ calls on IEC to remove Jacob Zuma as face of party

While many people do If we call Khumalo the founder of the party, he was actually used as a decoy, says Eyewitness News political editor Tshidi Madia.

“This was a project of former president Jacob Zuma; they understood that if Zuma’s name was used for the registration it would have attracted the attention of the ANC… so Khumalo was there because he is an unknown character. It is not his party.”

“The IEC said a few weeks ago that the leader who is registered is Zuma, because they want a photo of the leader for the vote. So the MK Party was very aware, Khumalo was aware, and now suddenly they are trying to fight back…”

Furthermore, going to the IEC instead of challenging the case in court means it is a waste of time, says Madia.

He suspects it is a question of law that often involves power and politics.

“It’s almost a way to stay in the media spotlight and a way to stay relevant. I think it was a shot in the dark.”

“I expected these riots AFTER the election… My problem with the MK Party is that everything is provisional and anchored around Jacob Zuma. I don’t think they have done enough work to try to put structures in place.”
