Former President and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has responded to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s comments, urging Ghanaians not to vote for him in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo’s legacy during his tenure includes corruption, ineptitude, arrogance, misrule and inflicting more hardship on the general population without achieving any significant impact.

He stated that he will not protect such a negative legacy, which would worsen the problems of Ghanaians, but will propose measures to eradicate them and make the nation a better place to live.

“Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misrule, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, rising unemployment and pushing more of our people into poverty,” he wrote in a post on his X page that was viewed by GhanaWeb.

The former president made these comments after Akufo-Addo advised Ghanaians not to vote for him in the 2024 elections because a victory for him would mean the destruction of his (Akufo-Addo’s) legacy in government.

What Akufo-Addo said:

“Registration has begun; I urge everyone who has not yet registered to do so, your vote is your power. I can’t hand over command to someone I defeated twice and who isn’t happy with everything I do; It will destroy the work I have done,” Akufo-Addo said as he addressed his supporters at a mini rally in Doboro, Greater Accra Region.

He added: “Vote for Dr. Bawumia; “I have worked with him for the last seven and a half years, I have confidence in him, I know he can continue the good work.”
