Kasoa is a time bomb ready to explode – Security expert | General news

A security expert, Dr. Jones Opoku Ware, has warned that the Kasoa area in Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region is like a powder keg about to explode as it houses a criminal subculture that has the potential of undermining public safety.

Dr. Jones Opoku Ware calls on authorities to take swift and decisive action before the situation gets out of control.

His comments come in the wake of a tragic incident involving a military officer, L/Cpl. Danso Michael, who was recently murdered allegedly over a land dispute incident in Millennium City, Kasoa.

The only suspect arrested so far has been identified as Benlord Ababio and is believed to be a ground guard.

Speaking on JoyNews AM program on May 6, 2024, he stated that “Kasoa is a place like a time bomb waiting to explode because it is an area where the characteristics we have have created the criminal subculture.

“There are even places in the area where people do not dare to go through at certain times of the day. We have certain elements and gangs that have declared certain portions of these places for themselves, and there are areas where they prohibit people from using those places because they believe they have the power to control those areas.

“When you have a subculture that has been built within a period in certain areas, it sends a certain psychological effect in people’s minds that in those areas we are alone and we have no protection, and that is what we have. manifested in the Kasoa area,” she said.

Dr Opoku Ware highlighted his investigation into crimes in Kasoa between 2017 and 2022, which revealed that land guards commonly sell plots of land to various people, resulting in violent clashes over ownership.

He also accused the local police of being aware of these unscrupulous sales practices and yet failing to take preventive measures to ensure public safety and deter further conflicts, thus aggravating the situation.

“Because look, if you look at crime statistics, as a criminologist, I don’t rely solely on crime statistics because of what we call the dark figure, I think the patterns demonstrated by the police data itself should send shivers down the spine. at the backbone of every security agency that operates within that company.

“This is not something we have to sit back on. The guy who has been arrested for committing the crime, I’m sure people in the area know him.

“I’m sure people in the area know about his activity, so why haven’t the police during that period gone looking for this guy to wait for someone to be murdered and then say we’ve moved and do you have the security operating with that type of system? Does it create a problem for everyone and that is what we have to analyze,” he said.
