Tanzanian officials travel to India for public works project and risk management training

Dar es Salaam. At the National Center for Good Governance in Mussoorie, India, a special capacity building program is being carried out exclusively for a group of 39 public servants from Tanzania, under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program ( ITEC).

The High Commission of India hosted the participating officials for a pre-departure orientation on May 3, 2024, during which the initiative was highlighted as an important step towards empowering civil servants for national development.

Deputy Director of the Office of the President (Public Service Management and Good Governance – PO-PSMGG), Ms. Judith Shoo, led the Tanzanian officials during the event.

He expressed gratitude to the Government of India for providing this opportunity and stated that this is a reflection of the close and friendly ties between India and Tanzania.

Ms Shoo praised the commitment, efforts and investment made by the Government of India, ensuring that Tanzanian officials stay abreast of global knowledge and technological advancements.

India’s Chargé d’Affaires Manoj Verma highlighted that the customized course on ‘Project and Risk Management for Public Works’ will be crucial as the country implements various construction projects.

The course is on the benefits of President Samia Suluhu Hasan’s recent state visit to India to elevate bilateral relations between the two nations to strategic partnership.

“As a result of this, development partnerships with Tanzania will see new impetus in the coming days,” Mr Verma said, reaffirming the High Commissioner’s commitment to collaborate with PO-PSMGG in organizing more customized courses.

He urged the elected officials to make the most of the opportunity and return with new knowledge and ideas, which will enable them to better perform their duties and responsibilities in their respective departments.

The ITEC Program is the flagship program of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and serves as a world-class capacity building platform since its inception in 1964.

With a legacy of training more than 200,000 officials from more than 160 countries, in both the civil and defense sectors, ITEC continues to be a model for international partnerships for capacity development.

Leveraging India’s vast and rich network of governance and development-related expertise available across higher education institutions and training facilities, ITEC offers fully funded training opportunities through nearly 400 courses offered across over 100 institutes across India. India.

India also responds to country-specific training requests in specific areas of governance by organizing customized training programs designed and delivered by India’s leading institutions. More than 6,000 Tanzanians have been trained in India under the ITEC programme.

India continues to be actively involved in empowering countries like Tanzania to achieve their development goals by proactively supporting capacity building initiatives for its public servants.
