Gadaffi achieves crucial victory, KCCA enters top four

• Gadaffi 3-1 Maroons
• KCCA 1-0 UPDF
• Mbarara City 0-0 URA

Matchday 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League provided new life for Gadaffi who, in a relegation skirmish, defeated the visiting Maroons 3-1 in Jinja to hold on.

Rashid Mpaata, David Bagoole and Steven Munguchi scored for the hosts, while Tusuubira Kakensa grabbed a consolation for the Maroons at the Gadaffi Army Barracks playground on Tuesday.

Gaddafi’s only sixth victory in 26 games places them in 14th place with 22 points, but they remain in the relegation zone, three points from safety.

In Lugogo, KCCA broke into the top four for the first time this season after recording a 1-0 win over UPDF at the MTN Omondi Stadium under the floodlights.

Striker Muhammad Shaban’s 41st-minute penalty goal prevailed over the tough soldiers in a match in which eventual Pilsner Man of the Match Peter Magambo excelled in defense to secure a clean sheet.

The 13-time league champions had a terrible first round of the season under Portuguese coach Sergio Traguil, but have since put together a spirited second half of the second round under Abdallah Mubiru.

KCCA have since moved up the table, with their 14th win in 26 matches, putting them in fourth place with 45 points, just above SC Villa on goal difference. However, they have also played one more game than the Jogoos.

For its part, the battles for the relegation of the UPDF worsened. The Soldiers drop to second-to-last place with 21 points, four points behind safety, and there are only three games left to salvage their worrying situation.

On the other hand, Mbarara and URA could only draw goalless at the Kakyeka Stadium. URA remains eighth with 36 points, while Mbarara is only two places behind with 31 points.
