Police today revealed the search for the man who killed Auckland man Robert Horne has ended after Hone Kay-Selwyn was found dead on a rural property in Taupō.

He was then seen lingering on the trail and heading towards Richmond Rd.

10:15 p.m.: Kay-Selwyn opens fire on a group of four people.

At around 10.15pm, four late-night revelers, including victim Robert Horne, got out of a car parked on Ponsonby Rd ​​and walked in the direction of Kay-Selwyn.

10.17pm: Security footage shows Kay-Selwyn walking away after the deadly encounter.

Moments after opening fire, the gunman turns in the opposite direction and begins walking along Ponsonby Rd, towards Richmond Rd.

He looks back at the scene repeatedly as he steadily walks away.

10:18 p.m. – Emergency services receive multiple calls after the shooting

A man who had been on the dance floor of a bar near the scene of the shooting said people ran out after hearing the bangs.

“I thought it was fireworks and suddenly people ran away,” he said.

He stayed inside and when he came out he saw the road flooded with patrol cars and agents.

A local who lives nearby said he heard “a gunshot and then all hell broke loose.”

He said the street was often packed on Sunday nights with those attending “Sunday sessions” and there was a lot of music and dancing last night.

Local leaders condemn shooting

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said he was “horrified to hear” of the fatal shooting in Ponsonby, while expressing frustration at the state of Auckland’s streets, given the funding his council has allocated to crime prevention .

Robert Horne named by family as victim

Robert Horne, 33, was the victim of the shooting in central Auckland on Sunday, a colleague told the Herald.

A Facebook post from a family member said his death was “tragic and sudden” and that they felt “deep sadness.”

An old close friend of Horne’s said he was a “very nice guy” and “loved by everyone.”

He said Horne had a partner and planned to have children.
