Erin Molan opens up about Andrew Johns feud over details that make her sick

Erin Molan has revealed that Andrew Johns still refuses to talk to her during an emotional tell-all segment on her breakfast radio show.

The former Channel 9 sports presenter and NRL immortal only confirmed rumors of their fight in 2022, years after reports first emerged Johns did not want to work with Molan.

In 2019, Molan was quietly removed from Channel 9’s Friday Night NRL coverage team, while Johns remained in his lead analyst role, when it reached a point where the pair could not work together.

Johns also left the Sunday football show before returning in 2021 after Molan left Channel 9.

Molan has always said that she does not feel the same animosity that Johns showed toward her in the past.

Three years since they last worked together, the relationship shows no signs of improving.

Molan was noticeably emotional while discussing the situation on 2DAY FM. Hughesy, Ed and Erin Show Wednesday morning.

After agreeing to talk about her relationship with Johns on air, Molan opened the conversation by saying, “Now I feel bad.”

Molan went through hell in the years following her public row with Johns when she became the victim of a campaign of social media threats and “vile” abuse.

The segment began with co-host Dave Hughes saying, “We don’t like to mention his name on the show because you and him have problems.”

Molan responded by saying she didn’t want to “fuel” the public storm, but was honest when asked about the drama.

“It bothers me a lot because I never understood why,” he said.

“And I reached out several times over the years to try to talk or ask why, and if I came up with a reason, I would understand. But I guess not everyone will like you.”

It was previously reported, but never confirmed, that Johns’ dislike of Molan dates back to 2017, when she replaced Paul “Fatty” Vautin as host of The football show.

He said he worked at Channel 9 for nearly eight years knowing that Johns openly disliked him.

“We got along really well at first, for the first year or two, and then something changed and I can truly say that I’ve never had any problems with him, but for some reason he just stopped liking me or communicating with me. me,” he said.

“That’s his right and anything else, but he just made things difficult.

“We worked another eight years together after he stopped talking to me. She didn’t talk to me at all off the air.”

He said he continued to try to reach an understanding with Johns, but his peace offers were never accepted.

“Off the air, I was trying to start a conversation, but in the end you give up because it’s in front of other people,” he said.

“Like I said, I don’t want this to be a big deal again, it’s just that he doesn’t like me for some reason and that makes me sad, but there’s nothing I can do.”

Molan also revealed he came face to face with Johns last year and again turned his back when they met at the same preschool his two children attend in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Molan’s daughter Eliza will turn six next month, while Johns’ third daughter Alice was also born in 2018.

Molan was clearly emotional as he talked about the chance encounter that occurred in front of his children.

“Actually, our little girls are in preschool together and they’re like little best friends, which is so sweet,” she said.

“Last year I saw him at prep and I tried and said hi to him and he didn’t say anything in front of the kids and that’s when I left… it makes me… obviously he made my life harder. for many years there. And if he had understood what he had done, he could at least face it.

“I did not want this to happen. And I don’t want to speak from their perspective.”

He said he remembers a clear moment from when they were still colleagues at Channel 9 where he asked Johns for an explanation.

“I’ve tried it several times over the years,” he said.

“Once we were together in a room in the football show and I said, ‘Have I done something? What can I do to fix this?’ And for some reason he just doesn’t want that relationship with me, which is his right.”

“There was no one else there that I didn’t get along with. All the other players and commentators, I would say, would be good friends of mine and I would have a really great relationship with them.

“It made me really sad because I would have loved it… he’s obviously a legend of the game, he’s an immortal and, as I said at the beginning, he was charming and great. And then obviously I did something unknowingly and that resulted in that. I tried to make efforts, but he obviously didn’t want to and that’s his choice.”

Molan previously told news.com.au’s I’ve Got News For You podcast with Andrew Bucklow that he still respects Johns.

Johns played 249 matches for the Newcastle Knights and represented New South Wales in 23 State of Origin matches. He is widely regarded as the greatest player modern football has ever known and was named rugby league’s eighth “Immortal”.

“He’s a very good commentator and a rugby league legend,” Molan said in 2022. “I have a lot of respect for what he’s done in our game.”

When asked about the breakup, Molan responded: “He’s an amazing commentator. Look, the interest in it never ceases to surprise me.

“I guess I never get into it because I just don’t see the need. I have moved on with my life. I left Channel 9. I had a great experience there for many, many years, but I can safely say that I am very, very happy with what I am doing now and I don’t regret leaving that at all. atmosphere.

“It was the right thing for me. Absolutely. Hands down.”

When asked if he was on “talking terms” with Johns, Molan returned to playing with a straight bat.

“Look, I thought I was prepared and now you’ve stumped me,” she said.

“It’s safe to say we won’t catch up, but I wouldn’t say we don’t talk.

“I guess we don’t really talk.”
