Forest said at the time they were extremely disappointed with the decision and appealed, but an independent commission dismissed their protest.

That leaves Forest in a relegation battle – they have 29 points, three points ahead of 18th-placed Luton. Both clubs have just two games left.

In a statement, the Premier League confirmed that the appeal was rejected for two reasons.

“The club argued that the Independent Commission made an error by not treating the sale of a high-profile player shortly after the evaluation period as a mitigating factor, and that it made a further error by choosing not to suspend some or all of the points. deduction he imposed,” the Premier League said.

“Each of these grounds was rejected by the Appeals Chamber, which considered that the independent Commission was entitled to immediately impose the sanction it imposed. Therefore, the four-point deduction will remain in force.”

Earlier this season, Everton had their points deduction for breaching Premier League financial rules reduced from 10 points to six points after an appeal.

Premier League regulations stipulate that a club cannot lose more than £105 million ($133.6 million) over a three-year period.

The rules apply differently to Forest, due to the fact they were in the second-tier Championship until 2022, where clubs are allowed a maximum loss of £39 million ($49.6 million) over three seasons or £13 million ($16.6 million) per season. meaning his allowable losses over the last three seasons would total 61 million pounds ($77.7 million).

Forest was accused in January of violating those regulations during the period ending in the 2022-23 season.
