Erik ten Hag sends direct message to Man Utd fans, despite not reaching out to them after Crystal Palace defeat

Erik ten Hag has sent a clear message to Manchester United fans following the Red Devils’ 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Michael Olise opened the scoring for Crystal Palace in the first half before Jean-Philippe Mateta doubled his team’s lead before half-time at Selhurst Park.

Tyrick Mitchell added Palace’s third after the break before Michael Olise, who has been heavily linked with Manchester United, completed his double in the 66th minute.

Erik ten Hag’s men were disappointed with their performance and United produced a lackluster performance while trailing Palace in the Premier League clash.

United languish in eighth place in the Premier League table and are level on points with seventh-place Chelsea and two points behind sixth-place Newcastle.

The Red Devils only have three league games left, and an FA Cup final clash against Manchester City will be their last game of this season.

United’s poor run of form in recent weeks ensured that Ten Hag’s side crashed out of the race for the top four and will miss out on the Champions League for next season.

However, the Premier League club faced a further setback in securing any form of European football after their resounding 4-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Ten Hag’s message to Manchester United fans

Erik ten Hag showed little desire to stay on the pitch after the final whistle blew at Selhurst Park.

The United manager shook hands with Crystal Palace management and some staff before marching down the tunnel following the Red Devils’ defeat.

However, United’s first team players approached the Red Devils fans at the visiting ground and received a chilling reception from them.

Ten Hag, whose long-term future at Old Trafford has been a mystery, did not send the best message by not addressing the fans after the game.

However, the former Ajax boss made sure to address the support United received from fans amid a “very disappointing” performance against Palace.

“It is clear and obvious that this is a poor performance,” Ten Hag said after the match, according to Manchester United’s official website.

“We didn’t perform the way we wanted to and it’s by far not good enough. We are very disappointed, but the fans were always behind us and we will continue fighting, as the fans did.

“I was really grateful (to the fans). They support us. They also see that we have our problems. You have to stay united. You have to take responsibility. “The fans gave us enormous, tremendous support.”

Ten Hag on Man Utd’s performance against Palace

Ten Hag insisted he could not defend United’s woeful performance at Selhurst Park and admitted the Red Devils suffered a “deserved defeat” that night.

“As Manchester United, we should perform better,” he said.

“The players who were available should do better. It is a deserved defeat. The performance was not what we expected.

“There are always reasons (why we are not good enough). Everyone can see our defense, we have big problems there but, at the end of the day, we have to face them. “We should have done better than we did.”
