Paparazzi caught making “offensive” comments during Stray Kids’ “MET Gala 2024” red carpet appearance

K-Pop idols are often not taken seriously by the American media.

On May 6, stray children made history as the first K-Pop group invited to attend the MET Gala.

Fans were filled with pride at the achievement and shared their praise for the group’s beautiful images.

However, fans quickly noticed that something was wrong with the group’s red carpet appearance.

In addition to the photographs taken by the paparazzi, many media outlets also filmed the red carpet. In a media clip, paparazzi can be heard talking sarcastically about Stray Kids, with one of them commenting that they were like “robots.”

Paparazzi 1: I have never seen so many impassive faces in my life.
Paparazzi 2: They are like robots.
Paparazzi 1: Yes of course.
Paparazzi 1: Now let’s do it with feeling!

When Stray Kids revealed their outfits, the group of paparazzi can be heard exclaiming negatively.

In another video taken right in front of Stray Kids, the crowd of paparazzi can be heard giving them instructions, and one of them shouts “everyone jumps“, before someone else says “How do you say good in Korean?”(0:37 in the following clip)

Both encounters perpetuate stereotypes about K-Pop groups, including that idols are cold and emotionless, while displaying an ignorant assumption that they don’t understand English.

Fans were left disgusted by the rude and “racist” comments made during such an important moment in Stray Kids’ career.

Even though this is happening, Stray Kids are still making history and looking great while doing it.
