Nigerian High Court to hear suit seeking annulment of Ganduje’s appointment as APC national president

In a copy of the original motion filed by Etsu on Friday and obtained by SaharaReporters, he alleged that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was illegally appointed national chairman of APC after the resignation of the immediate past chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

A chieftain and former national chairmanship aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Saidu Etsu, has approached the FCT High Court, Abuja, seeking the annulment of the appointment of Abdullahi Ganduje as the party’s national chairman.

In a copy of the original motion filed by Etsu on Friday and obtained by SaharaReporters, he alleged that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was illegally appointed national chairman of APC after the resignation of the immediate past chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Some of the reliefs sought by Etsu before the court include: “An order quashing the appointment of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje by the third respondent as National Chairman of the APC on August 3, 2023 on the ground that the third respondent failed, is denied and/or failed to comply with the procedure established in Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution (supra).

“A Declaration that the National Executive Committee of the APC does not have even a modicum of power to appoint Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on August 3, 2023 as the National Chairman of the Party;

“A Declaration that the National Chairman of the APC under Article 20 of the APC Constitution can only arise through a democratic election held at the National Convention of the Party.

“A Declaration that the National Chairman of the APC under Article 20 of the APC Constitution can only emerge through a democratic election held at the National Convention of the Party;

“A Declaration that according to a true interpretation and intention of Article 14.2 (ii) of the All Progressives Congress Constitution of 2013 (as amended), the Acting President of the APC after the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu from his position as President National, it must be someone from your Geopolitical Zone of the country, which is the North Central Geopolitical Zone, not someone from the Northwest Geopolitical Zone of the country, where the first accused comes from.”
