ER Round 9, Injuries, Return Dates, Cameron Murray hip injury, Adam Reynolds torn biceps, Jesse Arthar broken jaw, Dean Hawkins quad injury,

South Sydney captain Cameron Murray has been ruled out of the State of Origin season opener after suffering a hip flexor injury during Thursday night’s match against the Penrith Panthers.

On Saturday morning, the Rabbitohs confirmed that Murray would be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to the injury.

The 26-year-old’s injury compounds a disastrous campaign for the Bunnies, who are teetering at the bottom of the NRL ladder, while the setback will also create headaches for new NSW Blues coach Michael Maguire.

REYNOLDS’ SEASON COULD END

The Broncos’ season could be on the line after their most important player, Adam Reynolds, left the field with a serious biceps injury that could end his year.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Reynolds staggered out of a tackle on Junior Pauga and immediately signaled to the bench that he was injured.

After pointing at his biceps, he left the field accompanied by a coach.

“That’s an ugly sight… What will this mean for the Broncos?” Fox League commentator Dan Ginnane said.

“The Brisbane season here is on a knife edge,” Michael Ennis said.

“Last year’s grand finalists are chasing a chance at redemption and arguably their most important player is squatting.”

Reporter Corey Parker later revealed that the veteran running back had suffered a suspected torn biceps.

“It looks like he tore his bicep. It looks like it has come loose from the bone, there is a sizeable hole where the bicep attaches,” he said.

Ennis added: “That’s great news for the Brisbane season.”

It came after the Broncos lost Jesse Arthars to a broken jaw in the first half and the winger was taken from Suncorp Stadium to hospital.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters confirmed after the game the severity of the injury and admitted it could end the 33-year-old’s season.

“It’s not looking too good for him…he’s got a torn bicep, so I’m guessing he’s going to have to have surgery and be out for a considerable amount of time,” Walters said.

“Potentially (end of season). Until they get in there and operate, I guess they won’t know.”

The crisis of the rabbit halves

Souths face a running back crisis with Dean Hawkins joining Lachlan Ilias on the bench after suffering a quad injury against the Panthers.

Hawkins limped off in the first half after suffering a quad injury on a kick-off, and Jack Wighton came on to partner Cody Walker in the halves.

“An update on that quadriceps injury, Dean Hawkins has been ruled out for the game,” Lara Pitt said, before later adding that Hawkins felt a ‘pop’ during the incident.

Young fullback Jye Gray was the target of a hip-drop tackle from Izack Tago just six minutes into the match, leaving the 20-year-old in significant discomfort and requiring heavy strapping.

The three-game NRL rookie battled valiantly for the rest of the half but was ruled out at half-time, with Pitt reporting the injury as a possible syndesmosis complaint.

It forced Souths to make another change, with Damien Cook moving into the full-back role.
