Luton missed the chance to pick up a huge three points in the race for Premier League survival as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to already confident Everton on Friday.

Elijah Adebayo’s first-half equalizer canceled out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty and put Luton level on points with the team they are chasing: Nottingham Forest. However, the Hatters were desperate for a late winner, even sending goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski in for a series of corner kicks, but were unable to break down the tenacious Toffees defense despite six attempts on goal in stoppage time.

Attention now turns to Saturday, when 17th-placed Forest travel to already relegated Sheffield United in a match that will no doubt be seen as a must-win. Meanwhile, Burnley, who play Forest on the final day, host Newcastle in a bid to extend their impressive run and potentially overtake their rivals ahead of the final two games.

Vincent Kompany’s men have lost just one of their last eight games and earned a valuable 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weekend to further boost their hopes. They are just two points behind newly promoted Luton, who are currently only behind Forest on goal difference.

It is crucial to note that Forest are still waiting to discover whether their appeal against a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules has been successful. The club’s appeal was announced last Wednesday but there is no deadline for it to be resolved.

Burnley boss Kompany has expressed frustration over Forest’s still-unresolved points deduction case, telling the Burnley Express this week: “Let’s hope common sense prevails and people also know when to take a decision, let’s be honest about it.
