Former deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe says the ANC’s step aside policy is clear: once formally charged, members must resign from their positions and be relieved of their responsibilities.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the election campaign in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Friday morning, Motlanthe reacted to a Mail & Guardian report which claimed the National Prosecuting Authority was approaching Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa .

“There are rules and guidelines in the ANC and, as you know, there is even a rule of stepping aside, so whoever is formally charged knows that he has to step aside from any position of responsibility he holds,” he said. .
