Kenya appoints vice president of EA anti-corruption authorities

Kenya has been appointed Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the East African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.

The country will hold the position for the next two years.

The appointment was made during the 15th Annual General Assembly of EAAACA, currently underway in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) participates in the meeting.

This year’s meeting brings together heads of anti-corruption agencies from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Djibouti, South Sudan, Burundi and Somalia.

The meeting will be held to discuss modalities of strengthening regional cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The EACC delegation is led by the Director of Coordination and Field Services, Jackson Kaunda Mue.

On Thursday, MUE gave a presentation on coordination, collaboration and cooperation in asset recovery.

As a regional model in the recovery of unexplained wealth and corruptly acquired assets, the EACC continues to share its experience and best practices with other countries.

In January, Kenya was selected to host a key regional anti-corruption body, namely the Center for Anti-Corruption Studies and Research in Africa.

The body will be created by the African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA).

The resolution of the AAACA General Assembly during its extraordinary meeting took place on January 9, 2024.

It recognized Kenya’s commitment to international and regional anti-corruption legal instruments by establishing key anti-corruption structures and recording important milestones in law enforcement, prevention and recovery of corruptly acquired assets.
