First Lady Rachel Ruto has distributed food and household items to 203 families, totaling 1,131 people, affected by the floods in Thika West, Kiambu County.

Mama Rachel Ruto, who spoke at St. Johns Kilimambogo Teachers Training College, assured flood victims of Government’s full support in growing food in support of the Upward Economic Transformation Agenda commitment for the nation to achieve security food.

“Rafiki ni yule akufaaye katika dhiki; na ndio maana hawa watu wote hawa wamejumuika hapa, si kwa sababu wametoka kwa serikali… I want to assure all Thika residents that everyone will get their share of food,” he said.

“Floods not only occur here in Thika, but are a problem throughout the country. We give thanks for the rain. In 2022 and 2023, we experienced severe famine and lost livestock and wild animals. We prayed and asked God for rain “

Thika Town MP Alice Nganga, who was also present, welcomed Rachel Ruto’s visit to Thika West, noting that the floods had affected more than 10 villages, destroying livelihoods and farms.

The initiative has benefited the most affected villages, including Komo, Thika River, Mbagathi, Giciiki, Wendano and Mukunik.

Other leaders present included East African Legislative Assembly MP Maina Karobia, Kiambu County Commissioner Duncan Darusi and members of the Kiambu County Assembly.
