Pro-Palestinian camp remains at University of Toronto despite security concerns – Toronto

The University of Toronto says it is concerned about security as there is still a pro-Palestinian encampment on its downtown campus.

A U of T statement issued Thursday followed the installation of tents, banners and flags on campus as students continue to call on the post-secondary institution to cut ties with Israel in its ongoing conflict in Gaza.

That same statement reminded protesters that they must leave the camp before 10 p.m. on Thursday.

However, U of T went on to say that if the protesters’ activities remained peaceful, it had no intention of expelling them.

Ahead of their statement Thursday, University of Toronto leaders provided a separate memo to protesters saying that while they respect members’ rights to protest, unauthorized activities like encampments “are considered trespassing.”

This camp is one of many in Canada, as pro-Palestinian activists have also set up tents at McGill University in Montreal, the University of Ottawa and the University of British Columbia campus in Vancouver.
