A 28-year-old man was recently arrested for allegedly using scissors to rob a victim in Kembangan.

The suspect will be charged in court with the offense of armed robbery causing injury on Friday (May 3).

He faces up to 20 years in prison and at least 12 lashes for his crimes.

Attacker steals S$5,000 from victim

According to a statement from the Singapore Police, officers were alerted to a case of armed robbery with injuries on Jalan Selamat at around 4.35am on Thursday (May 2).

According to preliminary investigations, a man used a pair of scissors to threaten a victim and demand that he hand over $5,000 in cash.

After conducting extensive ground investigations and using footage from police cameras and CCTV, authorities from the Bedok Police Division successfully identified and arrested the suspect within 16 hours of the initial report.

They also managed to recover S$3,400 in cash.

The man could face up to 20 years in prison

The 28-year-old man faces charges of armed robbery with injury under article 394 in conjunction with article 397 of the Penal Code of 1871.

For his crime, he could face a sentence ranging from five to 20 years in prison, in addition to receiving at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Police advise citizens to remain calm if faced with a robbery.

They should also try to take note of the perpetrator’s physical appearance and any identifiable characteristics for later reporting.

“The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law,” they stressed.
