How PDM is changing the lives of Pakwach residents

Pokwero sub-county in Pakwach district has recorded significant success stories of the Parish Development Model (PDM) programme.

This is due to an enthusiastic acceptance of the program by locals in the area.

The revelation was made on Thursday in Pokwero Sub-County during a meeting between the Special Presidential Assistant on Political Affairs, Mr. Owiny Alfred Thopacu, and PDM beneficiaries in the area.

Mr. Owiny is also in charge of monitoring the PDM program in northern Uganda.

Pokwero sub-county has six parishes including Pokwero East, Janam-Orwenyo, Owiny, Oceke, Pokwero and Lobodegi. More than 600 beneficiaries from the six parishes attended the meeting.

Pokworo members receive information about the PDM program.

Owiny asked the beneficiaries to jealously guard the PDM programme, an initiative started by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to help Ugandans join the cash economy.

“The president wants every household in rural areas to eliminate poverty through PDM,” he advised.

Mr. Owiny reiterated his call on beneficiaries to be extremely careful in selecting companies, saying they should choose companies that have high returns.

He offered to give farmers free cassava cuttings from his 5-acre orchard to plant once the rains stabilize.

“They must own PDM SACCO, their village bank, so that the government adds more money every financial year and after 5 years each parish bank will have 500 million shillings,” he said.

The Pakwach District LCV Chairman, Mr. Robert Omito, encouraged the beneficiaries of PDM funds to always attend such meetings once invited to get solutions to their challenges as far as the program is concerned and also hear some of the inspiring success stories. .

Some of the members receive some support from PDM.

The Deputy Pakwach Resident District Commissioner (DRDC), Mr. Twaibu Achile, has warned distractors to immediately stop spreading negative sentiments about the President’s development programs such as the PDM.

“When we were mobilizing the beneficiaries to attend this meeting, some negative elements were also demobilizing you, we are going to arrest you, when you have not even multiplied in your companies. And now arrest you for what? he he wondered he.

Ag. Pokwero Sub County Chief Mrs. Hawa Sebbi gave a detailed account on the progress of the PDM program in her area.

He also recommended that the government release the PDM funds to the beneficiaries on time so that agricultural operations are not affected.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Florence Oikane from Lobodegi Parish, said the funds she received she used to start a pig farm and she has now been successful.

Mr Coorom Patrick of Pokwero parish said he has since invested the PDM funds in his 1.25 acres of cassava, while Mr Jayik Felix used the money to invest in fishing.
