‘Vote for Bawumia to do even more for Ghana’

The reconstruction of Appiatse, a community in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region, is an indication of the care the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has for the people of Ghana, the New Party Director of Communications has said. Patriotic (PNP), Richard Ahiagbah has said.

Ahiagbah has therefore urged Ghanaians to vote for the NPP flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 general elections to enable him to do more for the people of Ghana as President.

“Appiatse Reconstruction, look at it! Akufo-Addo cares. Vote for Bawumia to do even more for Ghana,” he wrote on his X platform.

Two years after the unfortunate tragedy that devastated Appiatse, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, commissioned and delivered a 124-unit housing project that officially signifies the resettlement of the residents of the community.

The newly built structures, which were commissioned by the Vice President on Thursday, May 2, 2024, range from one- to seven-bedroom units, with upgraded facilities, including a market, six-unit classrooms and kindergarten blocks, interior roads . , water and electricity, a drainage system and a water storage system.

Addressing a gathering of residents and chiefs of Appiatse and surrounding communities, Dr Bawumia first paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident and sent words of comfort to their families.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia noted that the completion of Phase II of the Appaitse Reconstruction Project is indicative of the resilience, compassion and indomitable spirit of the people of Appaitse as well as the entire country.

He paid glowing tributes to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his dedication and commitment to ensuring that the people of Appiatse are resettled into spacious, modern and environmentally friendly housing structures that ensure their tranquility and growth.

Detailing the President’s personal contribution and his absolute interest in the Appiatse Reconstruction Project, Dr. Bawumia said: “President Akufo-Addo was the first person to donate to the Appiatse Relief Fund, a sign of his compassion and dedication towards rebuilding this community. .

“In addition to his donation, President Akufo-Addo ordered that five million dollars (US$5,000,000.00) of the six million dollar (US$6,000,000.00) administrative fine imposed on the company in the center of the explosion will be paid to the Appiatse Support Fund. to support the victims of the incident and the reconstruction of this community. Such a selfless and compassionate gesture.”

Shedding more light on the contributions of key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, headed by the sector minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, Dr. Bawumia recounted that immediately after the incident, the government, through the ministry, initiated measures that ensured that the burden on residents was reduced and a process was instituted for the resettlement of residents.

Describing the Minister of Lands as “Bulldozer”, Dr Bawumia spoke glowingly of him for his keen interest and commitment in ensuring that the Appiatse project became a reality, and also praised the members of the Appiatse Reconstruction Committee, chaired by the former Vice Minister of Lands. and the person in charge of Natural Resources of Forestry, Benito Owusu-Bio, for their efforts.

“We are grateful to everyone who offered support in our time of need, whether through words of comfort, a listening ear, the provision of a need or a temporary place of residence or a contribution towards it; but, very importantly, to all, both corporate and individual Ghanaians, who, out of the generosity of their hearts, contributed in cash and in kind to support the rebuilding of the new Appiatse that we commissioned today. It is my prayer that the Almighty God abundantly replenishes all that you sacrificed. We are also grateful to the various committees, the Appiatse Support Fund, the Appiatse Implementation Committee, the experts, consultants, contractors and many others whose selfless dedication has brought us this far.

“To the tireless Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, who has led this project from the beginning to date, I thank him for his exemplary leadership and dedication. His commitment and tireless zeal to see this project completed have been unwavering. That’s why I refer to him as “Minister Bulldozer.” He just gets the job done. I am aware of the several visits he made to this community to evaluate the progress of the work and ensure that the contractors execute the project on time. The people of Appiatse are grateful for his services. “I am counting on his dedication to see the completion of Phase 3 of this important project,” he said.

The Vice President gave the utmost assurance that the government, since the incident, has employed various measures and interventions to prevent the same from happening again and also assured the chiefs and residents that the government will continue to provide support to them and ensure that their living conditions They take an upward curve.

For his part, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, praised the residents and chiefs of Appiatse for their collaboration and patience throughout the period.

He highlighted Dr. Bawumia as a leader who, from the beginning, played a visionary and fatherly role to the people of Appiatse and remained with them every step of the way.

He recalled that a day after the incident, the vice president visited the grieving community and assured them of his commitment to see their pain turned into joy and the fulfillment of the promise.

He also commended the committee led by Benito Owusu-Bio for their tireless role in the project and also sympathized with those who lost their lives in the process. He did not leave out the chairperson of the board of directors of the Minerals Commission and parliamentary candidate of the area for the New Patriotic Party, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, for her commitment to the project.

Benito Owusu-Bio, Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Project, expressed his gratitude to the government and indicated his enthusiasm for the project tender.

The ceremony, which was attended by senior government officials such as the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko; the Minister of Information-designate, Fatimatu Abubakar; among others, it also saw the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, commence construction of a 70-unit housing project which is the third phase of the Appiatse reconstruction project.
