Airports and airlines issue alerts amid bad weather

Heavy rain may have eased in Dubai, but its aftermath continues to disrupt travel. Passengers flying from Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) are advised to be prepared for possible flight delays and increased traffic congestion due to inclement weather. Dubai Airlines has issued a travel advisory urging passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual.

Dubai travel advisory: Arrive at the airport earlier than usual

Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, and Flydubai, its low-cost sister airline, have issued travel advisories urging passengers to arrive at the airport much earlier than usual. This allows additional time for check-in, security, and possible delays caused by unpredictable weather and traffic conditions.

While the UAE National Meteorological Center reports that the weather is less severe than initially forecast, the lingering effects of recent rains continue to affect travel in Dubai and other regions. Heavy rains that hit the region between April 16 and 23, the heaviest in 75 years, significantly disrupted airline operations.

Dubai International Airport, consistently ranked among the world’s busiest for international travel over the past decade, is approaching capacity. In 2023 alone, DXB served almost 87 million passengers. Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), also known as Dubai World Central, has quickly established itself as a major player in the global travel network, handling 86.9 million passengers in 2023 despite opening just over 13 years ago. years (June 27, 2010).

To accommodate growing passenger traffic and improve its infrastructure, Dubai has announced a major expansion project at DWC. A new $35 billion passenger terminal, five times the size of Dubai International Airport, is planned, with the goal of becoming the world’s largest airport upon completion.
