Huawei launches new innovation for SMEs

Huawei Technologies has launched a program aimed at bringing small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) into the digital economy.

Speaking yesterday at the launch of the program, Ms. Sooma Mukyala Fouziya, Public Relations Manager of Huawei, said that the initiative aims to support SMEs with different solutions to grow their businesses so that, in the long term, the country boasts of a smart economy. , where all businesses operate online.

“Huawei has just launched the Huawei Cloud Startup Program in Uganda, which provides support to SMEs. We will not leave anyone behind. We can provide different solutions to grow your business. You must not be on the stock market and you must have less than two years in business,” he said.

Mukyala said that unlike other cloud service providers, Huawei has offices in Uganda where customers can seek redress when they encounter issues such as breaches in their data security. He said this demonstrates his commitment to all Ugandan businesses.

Ms Rukia Nakadama, Third Deputy Prime Minister, who launched the programme, praised Huawei Technologies for spearheading the initiative and said it resonates with the government’s Vision 2040, which recognizes the role of digital transformation in creating jobs, stimulating of innovations and the promotion of economic growth among SMEs.

“Digital technologies are essential for SMEs to remain competitive and overcome traditional barriers, allowing them to improve processes and reach new markets. Despite significant achievements, continued efforts are needed to further advance Uganda’s digital agenda,” he stated.

Minister of State for Commerce in charge of Cooperatives, Fred Gume, urged entrepreneurs to adopt the programme, saying the country’s development agenda focuses on digitizing the economy to minimize human contact.

“The time for human contact is over. Let’s take advantage of those opportunities to grow our companies. We are using technology to grow our companies. The good thing is that you can subscribe to the service and pay little money,” she said.

He explained that cloud technology helps the entrepreneur track business performance and reduces operating costs.

Citing his ministry, which oversees 45,000 cooperative societies, he said technology has helped them reduce operational costs and entrepreneurs can access the global market. He urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the Internet and open businesses from home instead of looking for jobs.

For the past two years, Huawei Technologies Uganda Ltd is a top partner in the annual survey of the top 100 medium-sized companies. The initiative between audit firm KPMG and NMG Uganda seeks to identify business excellence and celebrate the fastest growing medium-sized companies in the country.

For the past two years, the company has sponsored the technology forum to educate the top 100 companies participating in the survey about cloud technology and cybersecurity.

Speaking to the panel of experts at the launch yesterday, Ms Susan Nsibirwa, CEO of NMG Uganda, said that as a company that produces a large amount of content that requires storage, one of the biggest advantages of cloud technology is the amount of storage. space.

“If the Daily Monitor is 32 years old and yet it has been keeping files for all those years, where does it keep that information? You need cloud technology. We have archived that information using cloud technology. The work is in real time, you access information in real time,” he stated.

He added that as a leading business partner, NMG will work with Huawei using its different media outlets to educate the public on how the technology works and the efficiencies and benefits it brings to their businesses.
