Anthropic Launches Claude Team Enterprise AI Plan and iOS App

Anthropic unveiled Claude Team, its business plan for Claude AI, on May 1. Claude Team arrives at an interesting time as companies struggle to find money-making uses for generative AI. With Claude Team, Anthropic includes generative AI that could be used to iterate projects, analyze documents or explore potential productivity gains, as well as administrative tools suitable for business.

Additionally, there is now a Claude app available for iOS.

“The Claude Team plan and the iOS app are part of a broader paradigm shift in how companies use and collaborate with AI,” said Scott White, product leader at Anthropic, in an email to TechRepublic. “With increased usage, administrative controls and access to the advanced Claude 3 family of models, companies can now offer every employee Claude capabilities.”

Anthropic products powered by Claude are available worldwide.

What is Anthropic Team Claude?

Anthropic’s Claude Team is a subscription plan that allows business managers and teams to access Claude 3’s generative AI and, in the future, will be able to connect it to CRM.

Claude Team adds the following to Claude’s regular offerings:

  • Higher usage (up to 200,000 context window), meaning Claude can have more chats and digest longer documents than on the Pro plan.
  • Access to all three sizes of the Claude 3 models: the large Opus, the medium Sonnet and the small Haiku.
  • Administration tools to manage users and billing.
  • All Pro features including high priority during high traffic times.

Anthropic plans to soon add integrations with data repositories like CRM and code bases. Other updates expected to come to Claude Team in the future include “citations from trusted sources to verify AI-generated claims” and the ability to iterate with other people on AI-generated projects.

Gartner analyst Arun Chandrasekaran noted in an email to TechRepublic that Anthropic is trying to target “business users who want better predictability, higher quality responses, and faster responsiveness” with the Claude Team. He pointed to the timing of the launch: a few months after OpenAI’s ChatGPT team hit the market.

The Claude app is now available on iOS

The Claude app on iOS became available in the Apple App Store starting May 1. The app allows mobile access to the free chatbot, as well as the Claude Pro and Team plans. In the app, Claude can interpret photographs, documents or files. If you log in on multiple devices, Claude iOS will be able to pick up your chats where you left off on another device.

Generative AI companies compete for enterprise use cases

What Microsoft is to OpenAI, Amazon is to Anthropic: Amazon donated $4 billion to Anthropic over the winter of 2023-2024, and Google funded Anthropic with $2 billion starting last October. All the hyperscalers working on enterprise AI have successfully promoted generative AI as a new idea, but monetizing generative AI products is difficult.

“AWS and Google probably see Anthropic as their best option to compete with ChatGPT and Copilot and take market share from them,” said Gordon McKenna, vice president of cloud evangelism and alliances at IT service management company Ensono, in a email to TechRepublic. “The timing of this announcement was likely coordinated with AWS and Google’s recent earnings announcements and was intended to bolster their presence in this market.”

While Team Claude costs $30 per month per person, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Team costs $25 per month per person annually or $30 per month per person monthly. The minimum number of users on the ChatGPT team is two, while the Claude team has a minimum of five.

“This (Claude Team) definitely indicates competitive pressure on ChatGPT’s mobile subscription business and will also put the ability to judge the effectiveness and performance of the model in the hands of daily users,” wrote Ricardo Madan, senior vice president of the agency. TEKsystems Global Services staff, in a statement to TechRepublic via email.

“Anthropic’s Claude FM (Basic Model) has already been used at the enterprise level through Google Cloud’s Model Garden registry and is one (of) AWS’s leading third-party FMs attached to its Bedrock platform,” Madan wrote. “However, Anthropic will essentially and eventually diminish the need for any company to use them as a third-party tool (via hyperscalers) now that they are placing a shortcut flag in the corporate model game.”
