Namibia sees first green hydrogen fuel trucks – National

Namibia on Thursday fueled the first two dual-fuel trucks with locally produced hydrogen in Walvis Bay.

This marks a significant step towards establishing Namibia as a key player in the production and export of green hydrogen and ammonia for industrial applications, from mining to shipping, trucks and trains, powered by clean energy.

The President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, and King Philippe of Belgium witnessed the momentous occasion, underlining the international importance of the event.

President Mbumba hailed the milestone as the realization of a long-held vision, emphasizing the transition from aspiration to tangible achievement.
Cleanergy Solutions Namibia, a joint venture between Ohlthaver and List Group of Namibia and CMB.TECH of Belgium, spearheaded the initiative.

The modern facility not only produces hydrogen using solar panels, but also has a refueling station and a hydrogen academy.
The project, which began three years ago with the late President Hage Geingob’s vision of a hydrogen-powered green industry, is now coming to fruition.

According to Namibia’s Green Hydrogen Commissioner, James Mnyupe, as Namibia embraces clean energy, supported by strategic partnerships and government initiatives, the nation is poised for economic diversification and job creation, aligning with the aspirations set out in Vision 2030.

“Today’s milestone signifies not only a technological achievement but also a step towards realizing the dreams of past leaders and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come,” he said.
