Police Release Names of Five Remaining Victims of Beatrice Crash

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the five remaining victims of a fatal road accident that occurred on April 26, 2024 on the 52 kilometer stretch of the Harare-Masvingo highway.

The accident killed 16 people and injured 28 others when a commuter bus with 44 passengers on board collided head-on with a transport truck near Beatrice.

On April 27, the ZRP released the names of 11 of the victims after their families positively identified their bodies.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 2, ZRP spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the remaining five victims were identified by their families. They are:

  • Tafadzwa Godgiven Nyandoro (6 months), a baby boy from Overspill, Epworth, Harare.
  • Edson Banga (49), an adult male from Overspill, Epworth, Harare.
  • Kudzai Lista Banga (28), an adult female from Overspill, Epworth, Harare.
  • Takunda Katiyo (22), an adult male from Old Tafara, Harare.
  • Dylance Benjamin Masondo (11), a minor from Zinyengere, Epworth, Harare.

In an unrelated incident, three people were killed and one injured on May 1, 2024 at Simon Mazorodze Road, Waterfalls, Harare.

Assistant. Com. Nyathi said a Honda Fit vehicle with two passengers on board hit a pedestrian, causing the vehicle to veer off the road before hitting a tree.

The pedestrian, driver and passenger died instantly while the other passenger suffered some injuries.

Police said two of the three victims were identified by their relatives. They are:

  • Gumisai Kandime (32), an adult male from Ushewekunze, Harare.
  • Tapfumanei Chisango (36), an adult male from Ushewekunze, Harare.

Assistant. Com. Nyathi added that relatives are yet to identify the other victim, while the bodies of the victims were taken to the Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The injured victim is admitted to the same hospital. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists must exercise caution on the roads and observe all road rules and regulations to safeguard human lives.
