Rating each player in the showdown as Adelaide stuns the Power

Adelaide have made a dent in Port Adelaide’s top four hopes, beating them comfortably in the Showdown.

Port will be kicking themselves after finishing 18 behind in the 78-48 loss and knowing they still had a chance at the start of the fourth quarter. A bad kick is bad football.

The Crows have had some opportunities on the big stage to start 2024, but against their city rivals they took a step forward.

Adelaide’s stars stood up, their defense was powerful and, for the Power, there are some big questions to ask.

We’ve rated each player below.

Adelaide

Jake Soligo – TO

Emerging as one of the competition’s rising star midfielders. Matthew Nicks giving him the midfield was an excellent decision. Worthy of the confrontation medal.

Izak Rankine – TO

Three goals and two goal assists in a dozen eliminations. All impact.

Mark Keane – TO-

Adelaide’s defensive unit was excellent all night. Port had no answers for his extra man and tough midfield. Keane certainly did his job locking down Charlie Dixon and attacking competitions where he could.

crouching matt – TO-

Eight participations in goals, six clearances and he was a beast from the beginning of the contest.

Max Michaelanney – TO-

An absolute blanket in defense once again. Completely excludes Willie Rioli. One of the best small lockdown defenders in the league right now.

Lachlan Sholl -B+

Night animated by the band, he kicked a goal and gave another one in the goal.

josh raquel -B+

He had three goal assists and Sholl rightly rewarded him with a gift goal in the box late in the game.

jordan butts -B

I spent most of the night with Todd Marshall. He would be very happy with his performance and with the team’s defense in general.

Rory Laird -B

Had a huge third quarter to help break the game open after a quiet start.

Mitchell Hinge b

Reilly O’Brien -B

I took full advantage of facing the support of the Port. Clearly the best of the rucks.

taylor walker -B-

He could have had a bigger night, but he scored his two goals. A good sign that the Ravens didn’t need him to dominate.

Josh Worrell -B

Ned McHenry -C+

He made an early impact, but disappeared from the game.

Lucas Nankervis -C+

Jordan Dawson -C+

I found some football, but it wasn’t its striking self on foot.

Darcy Fogarty -C+

Eight points, the team’s highest. Two early goals to his name, but quiet after that.

Brian Cook -C

Ben Keays -C

He took a bit of risk by running forward, which worked at times.

Chayce Jones -C

Elliott Himmelberg -C-

Daniel Curtin -D+

What a great stage to debut. You will learn a lot from it.

Brodie Smith – N/A

Substituted to start the fourth quarter. It seemed like a strange decision, unless he is a little weakened after the injury.

Port Adelaide

Zak Butters – TO

Not only did he win a lot of games, he took on the game and refused to settle. He can hold his head up high.

Jason Horne – TO-

It just makes things happen. He scored two important goals to keep Port alive and used his pace and skill to set up others. Wait until you have a few more preseasons under your belt.

Miles Bergman – TO-

Becoming an outstanding rebounder. He takes territory, he takes interception marks and he had a big impact under fire tonight.

Ollie Wines -B+

He had a great second half. Particularly good once Rozee took off.

Dan Houston -B-

He was not his usual influential self. He probably should have been moved with the ball when Rozee left.

Kane Farrell -C+

He didn’t get many shots, but when he gets into space there are few better kicks.

charlie dixon -C+

I worked hard to create opportunities but the Adelaide backline was tough to break down tonight. She obtained an incredible mark of single-handed proficiency.

Ryan Burton -C+

Darcy Byrne-Jones -C+

It crashed hard. She did what she could. However, I’m not sure if his role really suits him.

Brandon Zerk Thatcher -C+

He fought hard all night. She made some good decisions to work with his man and impact the competition.

Lachie Jones -C

They conceded two goals to Darcy Fogarty early on and seemed to lose pace in the first half.

Travis Book -C

Some touches of class early in the game, but is he still in the club’s best 22?

Dylan Williams -C

Mitch Georgiades -C-

None of Port’s key forwards stood much of a chance tonight against Adelaide’s spare defender and the Power forward’s misuse of the ball.

Jas Burgoyne -C-

I have the talent to be anything, as we saw last week against the Saints. However, tonight it will be very quiet.

Willie Rioli -C-

They stepped on his arm early, which can’t be nice. Well maintained by Max Michalanney overall.

Todd Marshall -C-

Willem Drew -C-

He’s had the best 2024 year of his career so far, but he’s had a very quiet night.

Esava Ratugolea -C-

It seemed like he missed Aliir Aliir’s influence and organization tonight.

Jed McEntee -C-

Sweet Jordan C-

Well beaten by Reilly O’Brien and made some sloppy mistakes throughout the night. He will likely remain behind Iván Soldo on the depth chart.

Connor Rozee -D

Get a tough grade after making the decision to play despite Hammy’s injury. He never looked good, used the ball poorly at first and was substituted after three quarters due to hamstring tightness. Poor in every way.

Jackson Mead – N/A

Replaced at three quarters. It probably should have been injected earlier.
