Meet the first female commander of the Kenya Air Force, Major General Fatuma Gaiti

The appointment of Major General Fatuma Gaiti as Commander of the Kenya Air Force goes down in history as the first ever made.

President William Ruto, in a series of promotions and military changes, made the appointment.

After breaking the glass ceiling, she became the country’s first female Air Force commander, which has resulted in a great victory for Kenyan women.

But who is Major General Gaiti?

He first made headlines in 2015 when former President Uhuru Kenyatta He promoted her to the rank of Brigadier.

At the time, Major General Gaiti had been in the service for 32 years, enlisting in 1983 before serving in the Women’s Service Corps.

She was promoted to second lieutenant in 1985 and posted to the Kenya Air Force.

In 2021, she was promoted to the rank of Major General, further cementing her notable career.

She became the first woman to achieve rank in the Kenyan military.

In 2023, President William Ruto appointed her to the Air Senior Management Staff.

Major General Gaiti has served as Battalion Second-in-Command (BN 2IC) Personnel Audit and Records Staff Officer II.

She graduated from the National Defense College and was a student at the Defense Staff College, graduating in July 2000.

Major General Gaiti has a Diploma in Management from Strathmore University College.
