Starlink services are now available for purchase on Jumia Kenya

Jumia has revealed that Starlink high-speed, low-latency satellite internet kits are now available on its platform in Kenya. This marks a new phase in the ongoing strategic alliance that was first introduced in Nigeria.

While Starlink services have been accessible in Kenya since 2023, high upfront costs have been a major barrier for many interested consumers. The basic residential package, which includes the satellite dish, a mounting tripod, and a Wi-Fi router, is priced at $662. This price does not include additional shipping costs or the monthly subscription cost.

“This agreement is a perfect fit for our mission to leverage technology to improve lives across Africa,” said Hisham ElGabry, Chief Commercial Officer of Jumia Group. “By expanding the availability of Starlink Internet service through the Jumia platform, we can provide people and communities with fast and reliable Internet access. “This initiative will boost economic development and open up new possibilities.”

SpaceX is actively hiring a growth manager for its Starlink internet service in sub-Saharan Africa. This role will be part of the Growth team and will focus on launching, expanding and improving Starlink across the continent. The Growth Manager will be instrumental in driving Starlink’s success and expansion in the region, overcoming growth obstacles, leading user experience improvements, and implementing strategies to drive adoption.

Hisham ElGabry, Jumia Group Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that the Starlink residential kit is now more accessible to Kenyan households and businesses due to a substantial discount. The kit, which includes a satellite dish, mounting tripod, and Wi-Fi router, is designed for easy installation and seamless satellite connectivity. “The complete kit is designed for easy setup and automatic alignment with satellites passing overhead,” ElGabry said.

This significant price reduction is available for a limited time and the offer will end in mid-May. Starlink has widely promoted this exceptional “55% discount” on Kenyan social media platforms. It is yet to be confirmed whether the discounted rate will still be available on the Jumia website once the promotion ends.
