Round 8 – DT TALK

What a long weekend of football that was, but what a good one too. A few close games, but a couple of blowouts. But what we did see was a carnage on the injury front and some bad scores too! The only thing I took away from the weekend is that it’s time to fight!

Do you feel lucky?

So now we’re starting to see some injuries and issues, as well as some drops in the ratings of our stars. Now you have to make the decision, what are you going to do!

Connor Rozee has been named for tonight’s match. But will he be late? Will it last during the game? If something goes wrong, the big question will be how long he will be out.

Jack Steele He showed up to the draft on Friday with a taped knee and has been with the rehab group and then in the last two, he got an 87 and a 72 after a great start to the year. Last year a lot of people who had him kept him and he ended up spending most of the season not scoring well.

Luke Jackson He was never a long-term play but his form was good, but now with Darcy back he has hit a couple of 61s. Can he recover from that? Or does he want to retain him during breaks due to his very favorable bye round which he shares only with Port Adelaide?

So you cut your losses and don’t take the risk of trading them now?

The golden rule that we have all appreciated for so long is that unless your player is going to miss more than a week, just suck it up and suck it up. The problem we have with exchanging these bonuses is that he puts you behind the rest with your update cadence. By doing that sideways trade, you won’t be able to do one up and one down (unless you have a ton of cash and can do one up and one up). And then what do you do when you suffer another injury this week and next? It gets to the point where you’re just shuffling sideways and never improving your side.

But what would you do in the above situations?

So with Rozee we believe that even if you are late you should be fine for next week. So with him I would say embrace him.

For Steele the big question is how serious is this knee and how long will it affect him? I think I plan to keep him for now, he has North this week so he should be able to score well without putting too much stress on his body. If he can get through this game and pass the vision test, then I’d say we can keep him beyond that. But any sign of lameness or slowness and I think he needs to go.

I like the idea of keeping Jackson until the break so he can cover his ruck division as he has that independent rest weekend. But keep in mind that she could lose a lot of money between now and then. Also remember that Darcy doesn’t really have a great track record when it comes to being able to stay in the park.

Be careful who you fall into

While we are in this phase of updating the game, we must be careful with what we do with our downgrades. It always seems cool to jump on the guy who has debuted or had a good game. However, it’s always good to do a little research before doing so. Why did they debut? Was there anyone outside? Is the person they came in to date long-term or is he or she only out for a week and will be back next week and displace their new rookie before he’s had a chance to grow? And the same reasons apply to why someone may have scored well, they may have had a role change because someone else was out. And, of course, there is always the dreaded vest risk.

There comes a point where we can afford to demote a red-point rookie, but that’s not the case. It’s more like two or three weeks until the season ends. Just remember that the players you bring in need to put on some weight to finance the next round of upgrades we need to make during the byes.

Things to remember

  • Now that we’re back to a more traditional round of football, keep an eye out for game start times and in particular any overlays for loops etc.
  • There are a number of rivalry type games this week where anything can happen and they are often close games so we will see some strange results.
  • Start planning your operations a few weeks in advance and, of course, take those goodbyes into account, too.

Have a great football weekend and I hope to be back with you next Thursday!
