It makes sense for Bawumia to campaign before his running mate.

Former Deputy Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has stated that the decision of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to start his campaign before the 2024 elections before announcing his running mate formula is suitable.

Anyidoho said Dr Bawumia needed to establish his presence before naming his running mate.

“From a politically strategic perspective, it makes perfect sense for Dr. Bawumia to start his campaign as a flag bearer and establish his presence before naming his running mate so that, ad infinitum, the running mate is always number 2 without “ideas.” fun.” Smart move,” eh wrote in X.

Dr. Bawumia began his campaign on Monday, April 29. He began by meeting with the regional executives of the PNP and promoted his arrangements as vice president and also his plans for Ghana if he is elected.

He promised, among other things, that his administration will ensure that import duties in Ghana are not higher than those in Lomé, Togo.

He noted that the port of Lomé is a major competitor to Ghana. People often import goods through the port of Lomé and smuggle them into Ghana.

To stop smuggling, he said, Ghana will charge the same import duties as Lomé or even less.

“The port of Tema will be fully automated. We are bringing a new policy for import duties, we are going to align the import duties at the port of Tema with the import duties at the port of Lomé. The ports of Ghana will not charge higher duties than the ports of Lomé, this is our policy, we will not charge higher duties because they are our competitors.

“If you are taller, all the containers will go to Lomé and they will be smuggled into Ghana and you will lose income, so we will ensure that under a new policy we will be shorter or equal to Lomé. That is the policy and that will help our businessmen, there will be no need for smuggling,” Dr. Bawumia.

Flaunting their achievements, for the first time in the history of Ghana, electricity consumers can sit in the comfort of their homes or wherever they are and purchase electricity without having to queue at the offices of the Electricity Company. Ghana (ECG).

This, he said, is among the list of innovative measures introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration.

“For the first time in our history, people can buy electricity units from their mobile phones. We take it for granted now, but a few years ago you had to queue at the ECG payment center to buy electricity.”

He further stated that the government has built more courts for the judiciary than any other government.

Furthermore, he said, the government has provided cars and equipment to the Ghana Armed Forces and Police more than any other government.

“Our government has implemented many transformative policies. For the first time in our history as a country, Ghana has successfully issued a digital national identity card that has provided a unique identity to all Ghanaians.

“For the first time in our history, Ghana has implemented mobile money interoperability between mobile money accounts of telcos and bank accounts of banks. Ghana is the first country in all of Africa to have made this mobile money interaction between bank accounts and MoMo accounts.

This has made Ghana the fastest growing mobile money market in Africa. In fact, when we took office, MoMo transactions in Ghana were only 78 cedis per year. Last year they reached 1.9 trillion cedis, that indicates what we have done,” he said.
