Will Dolly leave the Chiefs as a new coach looms?

Kaizer Chiefs are said to be considering the departure of Keagan Dolly as they look to restructure the club and coaching team in the off-season.

Dolly, who has captained the club at times this season, was set to begin talks over a new contract before his injury shelved discussions, with the mutual understanding it would take place at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

As one of the club’s highest-paid players, early discussions were downgraded, as was the case with Khama Billiat, who eventually parted ways with no response to a renewal at Amakhosi before re-emerging in Zimbabwe with Yadah FC.

Interim head coach Cavin Johnson refused to consider early suggestions that Dolly could part ways at the end of the season.

“That’s a strong question to ask myself at this point in the (season) just because Keagan has been out (injured), and Keagan is out injured right now,” Johnson responded. iDiski Times when asked if he would advise the Chiefs to keep him.

“If I said this and that, it seems like I haven’t given Keagan much to say, but I think we have to save that for the end of the season.”

The 31-year-old is likely to part ways if a deal is not reached as Chiefs look to increase their wage budget for a revamped coaching staff under their new head coach for the 2024/25 campaign.
