Blue Ivy Carter plays Kiara in ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’: Watch trailer

Disney released the first official trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King Monday, featuring the rise of a young, scruffy Mufasa as king of the Pride Lands.

Mufasa: The Lion King marks the prequel to the 2019 live-action remake The Lion King, where Donald Glover and Beyoncé took on the roles of adult Simba and Nala, respectively. In Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), Blue Ivy Carter joins the cast as young lioness Kiara, daughter of King Simba (Glover) and Queen Nala (Beyoncé). In Mufasa: The Lion King, which combines live-action cinema with photorealistic computer-generated imagery, shaman Rafiki recites the story of an orphaned Mufasa through flashbacks. Mufasa meets the royal heir Taka, also known as Scar (Kelvin Harrion Jr.), who accepts Mufasa as his brother.

Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner return as fun friends Pumbaa and Timon, and Aaron Pierre replaces the great James Earl Jones, who had played the role since the 1994 original, as Mufasa. Other cast members include John Kani (Rafiki), Kagiso Lediga (young Rafiki), Anika Noni Rose (Afia, Mufasa’s mother), Keith David (Masego, Mufasa’s father), Tiffany Boone (Sarabi), Preston Nyman (Zazu), Mads Mikkelsen (Kiros). ), Thandiwe Newton (Taka’s mother, Eshe) and Lennie James (Taka’s father, Obasi).

Lin-Manual Miranda will write the film’s songs and serve as co-producer with Mark Mancina. Lebo M will perform additional music.
