Three positives and negatives from Arsenal’s exciting north London derby win

Despite a late scare, Arsenal dismantled Tottenham in the North London Derby, with a 3-2 victory keeping their Premier League title hopes alive.

The Gunners took a 3-0 half-time lead, scoring from two set pieces, but Spurs, thanks to a couple of errors, recovered in the second half and set up a thrilling finish.

Cristian Romero took advantage of David Raya’s error before Son Heung-min scored from a penalty to reduce the home team’s deficit to just one. However, Arsenal endured the final minutes with determination and took a huge three points.

After such a fast-paced match, here are the three positives and negatives of the North London derby.

Martin Odegaard

Winning a North London derby is always an incredible feeling, but this victory means much more than simple bragging rights which, given Tottenham’s current state, are moderate anyway.

But this victory marks another step towards immortality for this Arsenal team, as they keep their dream of winning the Premier League title very much alive.

The Gunners still need help from elsewhere because, due to the game they have, Manchester City is still in control, but Arsenal are doing everything they can in the hope of a slip-up from Pep Guardiola’s team.

This was seen by most as Arsenal’s toughest game remaining, making their overall dominance very encouraging, ahead of a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their penultimate league game.

Thomas Partey, David Raya

A dominant performance was marred by the over-complication of the match from Arsenal’s point of view, which was a source of real frustration for many fans.

In the end we were victorious, which some would say makes this point redundant, but it was very disappointing to see us willingly give up so much control of the game.

It wasn’t just Tottenham getting back into the game, but the fact that it was entirely self-inflicted that hurts a little.

These mistakes can be very costly over the course of a season and although it didn’t cost us this time, it’s not something we want to make a habit of like Arsenal teams have done in recent years.
